Wi-Fi QR code generator
Create a QR code that connects a phone to your Wi-Fi in one scan. Enter the network name and password, download the code and print it. The password stays in your browser.
The password is only used in your browser to build the code and is never sent anywhere. Anyone who scans the printed code can join the network, so treat it like the password itself.
Your QR code appears here as you type.
How to use it
- Enter the network name (SSID) exactly as it appears on your phone, including capital letters.
- Enter the password and choose the security type. Most networks are WPA / WPA2 / WPA3. Tick the box if the network is hidden.
- Scan the preview with a phone camera. The phone should offer to join the network. Press Download PNG or Download SVG.
- Print it or show it on a screen where guests can scan it.

How to make a Wi-Fi QR codeHow a Wi-Fi QR code works
The code contains a short line of text that describes your network: its name, its password, its security type, and whether it is hidden. It looks like WIFI:T:WPA;S:MyNetwork;P:mypassword;;. The camera app on a recent iPhone or Android phone recognises that format and offers to join the network, so the guest never has to read out or type a long password. Special characters such as semicolons, commas, colons, quotation marks and backslashes are escaped for you, so unusual passwords work.
Very old phones and some third-party camera apps may not understand the format. In that case, a guest can still scan the code with a QR reader app, or you can show the password as text as well.
Keep your password safe
Your password is used only in your browser to draw the code. It is not uploaded, stored or logged. But anyone who scans the printed code gets the password, so decide where the code goes. Do not put your main network's code in a public place. A guest network is a better choice for a code on a wall: it separates visitors from your own devices, you can change its password without disconnecting your own things, and many routers can switch it off with one setting.
If the code was shared more widely than you meant, change the password on the router and make a new code. The guide to sharing a Wi-Fi password safely covers guest networks and other options.
Choosing the right security type
Choose WPA / WPA2 / WPA3 for almost every network made in the last ten years. Choose WEP only for a very old router, and consider replacing it, because WEP is weak. Choose No password for an open network, such as a public hotspot. If your network does not broadcast its name, tick hidden network so the phone knows to look for it.
If the code does not connect
Check the network name and password for typos, including capital letters and look-alike characters such as 0 and O. Make sure the security type matches your router. Check that the code is large and well lit, with the quiet zone around it. Some corporate and school networks use personal logins that a QR code cannot hold, and those cannot be joined this way.
Frequently asked questions
How do I make a QR code for my Wi-Fi?
Enter the network name and password, choose the security type and press Download. Guests then scan the code with the camera app and tap to join.
Does it work on both iPhone and Android?
Yes, on recent versions the built-in camera app reads the Wi-Fi format and offers to join. Very old phones may need a QR reader app.
Is my Wi-Fi password sent to your servers?
No. The password is used in your browser to draw the code and is never uploaded or stored. Anyone who scans the code, however, gets the password, so place it carefully.
Should I put my main network on a poster?
It is better to use a guest network for any code that many people can see. You can change the guest password without disconnecting your own devices.
What if my password has special characters?
The generator escapes semicolons, commas, colons, quotation marks and backslashes for you, so unusual passwords still work.
Can I make a code for a hidden network?
Yes. Tick the hidden network box so the phone knows to look for it even though the network does not broadcast its name.
